The beginnings of the band date back to , when it was a project of two university students, Anchang vocals and guitar and Mad Power drums. After graduation, Anchang moved on to become a regular office worker, and the real story of Sex Machineguns didn't start until , when Mad Power pushed him to revive the band, adding bassist Noisy and guitarist Sussy to the lineup. Mad Power left soon after the band got signed and was replaced by Speed Star Sypan Joe, who, in turn, quit in citing health problems, but still started his own group, Dasein, in

Their music is characterized by a heavy focus on bass as well as extremely fast guitar and bass solos. The band uses the image of " shock rockers " by wearing crazy, exotic outfits like visual kei bands, although this image has been toned down, especially since when the long-term bassist Noisy left the band. The lyrics feature very off-beat and non-serious themes the superior quality of Satsuma fruits in Ehime prefecture, minor annoyance in family restaurants, etc. Casting themselves as shock rockers is not the prime selling point of their music though, as they also exhibit technical skill on their instruments.
